Introduction to Revelation

You have reached the COT Study page for the Book of Revelation. All study materials for the book of Revelation will be found posted within this section of the website and we sincerely hope that all studies make a difference in your personal walk with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The Letters

In this study we discover Jesus addressing John in a vision; he is revealing to John prophecies regarding the time John lived in, and the times that would come; which is our time. In addition to the prophecies being revealed; the Lord clearly communicated to John that the time was at hand; meaning, the prophecies given to John had already started. These are not determinations; rather, these are written scriptures;

Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
Rev 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter

John was instructed to write letters to the Seven Angels of the Seven Churches. When viewing the letters it is clear that the Lord desired that all be ready; making necessary corrections as outlined. Finally, each letter ends with a promise to the one who makes those necessary changes.

Ephesus

The Lord speaking to John; this is what was given

  • Acknowledgements

    • Patience
    • Cannot bear them which are Evil
    • Tried those who say they are apostles
    • Labored and have not fainted

  • Issues

    • Left their first Love

  • Advisements and Corrections from the Lord

    • Remember from when and where you have fallen and repent
      • Remember how you were in the beginning; having all faith and all hope for all people.
    • Do the first Works
      • When first converted; there is genuine compassion toward people who are dabbling in the world and caught in sin. When a believer grows, and they progress; they begin to join the voices of those who are popular; these move away from caring for those caught in sin and only build up those who have accepted Christ by words.
      • The Lord desires us to remember our first compassion; to have that genuine heart that really cared for those trapped in sin. Instead of condemning them; the Message of Salvation is About Redeeming them.

  • Consequences of not correcting what was advised from the Lord

    • The Lord will come unto you quickly and remove your candlestick out of its place (the sheep will be scattered) except you repent.

  • Rewards

    • He that overcomes will eat of the tree of life in the midst of the Paradise of God

Smyrna

This Church was attributed to being rich spiritually; this Church is surely one of a kind.

  • Acknowledgements

    • The have Tribulation
    • They have Poverty
    • Tolerance for those in opposition around them

  • Issues

    • None given

  • Advisements and Corrections from the Lord

    • Fear nothing you will suffer
    • The Devil will imprison some of you
    • Some will be put to death

  • Consequences of not correcting what was advised from the Lord

    • None given

  • Rewards

    • He that overcomes shall not be hurt of the second death

The Blessings

Pergamum

This Church was attributed as trusting in the Lord

  • Acknowledgements

    • They live in a challenging area where Satan's seat is
    • They trust in the name of Jesus
    • They have not denied their faith in Jesus Christ, even when people have been killed for it.

  • Issues

    • They hold the doctrine of Balaam which results in the committing of fornication
    • They are in company with those who hold the doctrine (way of life believed) of the Nicolaitans which the Lord hates

  • Advisements and Corrections from the Lord

    • Fear nothing you will suffer
    • The Devil will imprison some of you
    • Some will be put to death

  • Consequences of not correcting what was advised from the Lord

    • Repent, or else the Lord will come upon them quickly

  • Rewards

    • To him that overcomes these things, God will give to him of the hidden manna
    • They will be given a white stone with a new name written on it that no one knows save the one who receives it. (To be given a stone with a name that no one knows is to have total control over one's self. Only those with power over you can name you).

Thyatira

This church has the Jezebel problem; but Jezebel may not be what you think.

  • Acknowledgements

    • Works are known
    • They have charity, service, faith and patience
    • The last works are greater than the first (this is progress and growth).

  • Issues

    • They put up with "that woman Jezebel" which calls herself a prophetess.
    • Jezebel seduces; teaching Gods servants to commit fornication and to eat thing sacrificed to idols

  • Advisements and Corrections from the Lord

    • SHold fast till the Lord comes.

  • Consequences of not correcting what was advised from the Lord

    • God gave her space to repent but she did not repent (only humanity can receive forgiveness, not evils spirits or demons, what does this imply? That God would give her space to repent).
    • Those that commit adultery with Jezebel will be cast into Great Tribulation if they do not repent of their deeds.
    • God will kill her children with death

  • Rewards

    • To him that overcomes these things, and those who keep the words until the end, to him will God give power over the Nations.
    • And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

Sardis

This Church was attributed as

  • Acknowledgements

    • You have a name (reputation) that you live but are dead
    • You have a few names in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; they will walk with the Lord in white; for they are worthy

  • Issues

    • Be watchful and strengthen the things which remain that are ready to die.
    • Their works have not been found perfect

  • Advisements and Corrections from the Lord

    • Remember how you have received and heard
    • Hold fast and Repent
    • Watch

  • Consequences of not correcting what was advised from the Lord

    • If you will not watch, the Lord will come upon you as a thief and you will not know what hour the Lord will come upon you.

  • Rewards

    • Those that overcome, the same will be clothed in white raiment
    • Your name will not be blotted out of the book of life
    • The Lord will confess your name before the Father and before the Angels
